Green and Modern City of S’Pore

Di Orchard Rd. SG, 2009
It was lucky me going to the Singapore for the first abroad experience. Singapore seems to be a very modern country for me. The city planning is so neat. There are a lot of great and modern architectural buildings in the middle of green city forest. Various birds are flying above the buildings. High variety of trees can also be found in the city forest nearby, almost everywhere in the city. The trees are not only various, but also old and well grown. Instead of that, developing project of buildings is covered with high fence, so that nobody is being inconvenience near the project. It looks as if the government care about resident service very well. But one thing that disturbs me is that in Singapore the prices were pretty high compared with Indonesian price. It is just because the country of Singapore is actually lack of natural resources. They import almost everything, so the production process costs higher.

Singapore is also an excellent place for study. As I attached as an exchange student at the National University of Singapore (NUS), I found so many interesting facts related with student service. The NUS provides almost what student need at campus. From the best location, best lecturers, smoke-free campuses, residents, free internal bus, and also good environment for studying. Instead of the good service, the architectural buildings are so well-designed and also purposeful. They really care about the aesthetic way of developing campus but do not forget about the essence of the building itself. I love the public transportation that they have provided. The many-tracks buses will get you around the campus. Through this kind of transportation, it seems that all places are accessible enough.

Good public transportation is not can be found only at the campus. In the city of Singapore itself there are so many ways to transport. Just say, the MRT train and the City buses. The fare is just fair with the need to transport anyway. They cost the passengers based on how far they want to go. They also provide a card with prepaid voucher for bus and MRT passengers. The cost will be taken from the card automatically. The card is also easy to buy at any shop or MRT counters. Just scan your card in front of small machine in the bus when you get in and out of the buses, and the card is detected automatically. But if you only have cash, it doesn’t matter at all; they also receive cash for the bus and MRT fares. As I can said, Singapore is just like a digital country. It is a very recommended place for study or just visiting. Rrr...rr but not for living I guessed :-)
